John Venn & Sons is a firm of Scrivener notaries & translators that has existed since the early 19th century. From offices in central London and Birmingham it continues to offer notarial, translation and legalisation services.
Scrivener notaries are qualified in English law and in aspects of the law of a foreign country. They are also examined in two foreign languages. Notaries at John Venn & Sons are therefore able to certify documents in other languages and to prepare and certify legal documents for use overseas.
The firm deals with the complete spectrum of clients, from private individuals through to multinational companies. We are able to liaise with local counsel and registries as and when required, to ensure the acceptance of documents in the jurisdiction. We are proud of our tradition of consistent quality and service.
For Germany, the firm is regularly instructed to produce notarial certificates of representation, confirming a director’s ability to represent a company incorporated in England. In Spain, our notarial acts correspond to the “escrituras” that are a feature of their civil law system. Powers of attorney for Italy and France are completed in a manner which respects the elements of family or inheritance law.
Alongside these foreign-language notarial services, John Venn & Sons offers legal translation of texts such as corporate documents, accounts and witness statements. Translation is available into and from English, with other languages being available either in-house or through our panel of experienced legal translators and editors. We use a quality control system that promotes high quality, technical accuracy, cultural appropriateness and natural flow. Our engagement with freelancers through active membership of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting and the Institute of Linguists is an important element of this process.
John Venn & Sons arranges legalisation at all the consulates and chambers of commerce in London. Our staff deliver and collect client documents to and from the relevant government office or consulate. We advise regular clients of the timescales and fees involved, in order to obtain the best results in terms of cost and expediency.
A long-standing service based on a tradition of linguistic and legal expertise is therefore available to law firms and their clients.
