Every hour three people in the UK die due to alcohol, and the figure is sadly rising.
10 million people in the UK are drinking at dangerous levels and alcohol costs our NHS around £8.3 billion annually, while straining other vital services.
Alcohol can cause mental health problems, liver disease, seven forms of cancer, financial difficulties, and much more – it can affect any one of us, from any walk of life.
Alcohol can destroy lives like Mali’s, who lost her mum when she was just 17:
“I lost my mum twice – her real self and her physical self. Alcohol changes a person, and it did just that to my mum. She was clever, brave, inappropriately funny, generous and the most loving person.
“I would do anything to get my mum back. Anything. I don’t want anyone else to go through this, or to have this massive hole that’s going to be within my heart for the rest of my life. That’s why I support Alcohol Change UK.”
At Alcohol Change UK we are changing lives:
- Every year we provide free information and advice to over one million people and their families in search of help with their own, or a loved-one’s drinking.
- Our national campaigns, Alcohol Awareness Week and Dry January, help hundreds of thousands of people understand the harms caused by alcohol, and reduce their drinking long term.
Leaving a legacy to Alcohol Change UK can change and save lives and create a society free from alcohol harm.
