Plenty of law firm offices have been cleared out over recent years to be turned into desirable residences.

So how refreshing (sic) it is to see one former office being converted into a resplendent – and now award-winning – bar.

The site in the Cheshire town of Alsager had been empty since around 2016, when Edward Hollinshead moved out. But the building then came to be identified by Titanic Brewery as the perfect choice for its expanding range of bars. The impressive Bod Alsager opened in 2022 and was last month named by real-ale campaigners CAMRA as best conversion at the National Pub Design Awards.

A Titanic spokesman said: ‘The conversion process itself was a big project – the former solicitor’s office was somewhat of a shell when we got the keys, so there was a lot to do, especially with creating a bar and kitchen area, as well as fitting out the new conservatory extension and building the outdoor decking and accessibility ramps.

‘All in all though, it only took the team eight weeks to get Bod Alsager ready and open to the public.’

With around 80 pubs closing every month, we’ll drink to that.
