Obiter is looking forward to the scenic highlight of the legal walking season – the inaugural Cornwall Legal Walk. On 5 May, lawyers and other people who care about the availability of free legal advice will be walking from Falmouth town to Pendennis Castle overlooking the Fal Estuary. The event is raising money for a local community facility, the Dracaena Centre, which offers a free legal advice service covering debt, benefits and family law.
The service is run through a groundbreaking partnership with University House Legal Advice Centre in London, with lawyers in London providing advice via webcam. Local volunteers and law students from Exeter University’s Penryn campus also do their bit.
The aim is to become the first law centre in Cornwall, a county without a single active provider of legal aid housing advice. For further information go to: swlst.org.uk/cornwall-legal-walk.
