Law firms across England and Wales have once again been going the extra mile the local good causes, and this is our chance to showcase them.
DW Harris in Swansea collected gifts they’re donating to local charities.
North west firm Bermans raised money for its nominated charity Paul’s Place, a specialist counselling service for people bereaved by suicide. Staff took part in the Liverpool Santa Dash as part of this year’s appeal.
National firm Burges Salmon hosted its own talent show at the Bristol Beacon, raising £15,000 for the charity Fairer Futures for Young People.
Along with magic and stand-up acts, the firm’s senior partner, Chris Seaton gave a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s My Way ahead of him retiring from the business next year.
Bond Turner, based in Liverpool, hosted a Christmas jumper day, staff quiz and best Christmas tree photo competition, all in aid of the Kind Christmas Appeal, providing hampers to local families.
Midlands practice Rothley Law presented a cheque for £12,680 to Headway Birmingham and Solihull to mark the end of a year of fundraising which includes staff completing the National 3 Peaks Challenge.
National firm Bevan Brittan made donations to four charities – Age UK Birmingham, 1625 Independent People in Bristol, Zarach in Leeds and Thames Reach in London, after each of its offices was asked to nominate a local good cause. In total, the charities were given £25,000 from each office this month.
Staff from Manchester-based Express Solicitors wrapped and delivered a van load of presents to the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, a charity that ensures underprivileged children have something to open at Christmas. The firm also provided 300 mince pies for a local primary school and raised money for Little Lady Locks, a charity which helps children who have suffered from hair loss.
For the sixth consecutive year, Pepperells Solicitors is supporting the Christmas Dinner Project 2024 to ensure that nobody goes hungry on Christmas Day across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Bott and Co in Wilmslow supported Cheshire A Cappella with bake sales to raise a grand total of £2,159 for their choir funds which is a game changer and will allow them to have ambition, fully realise their talent, and compete against some of the much bigger choirs on a more level playing field; it’s about quality not quantity!
Meanwhile, back in London, some of the team members at Hamlins donned their festive jumpers and circulated a treats trolley to raise money for their corporate charity, The Ruth Strauss Foundation.
Staff at Manchester firm Olliers Solicitors donated new toys, gifts, or books suitable for children aged 0-14 years to Wood Street Mission Christmas toy appeal. The charity supports low-income families across Manchester and Salford.
Huddersfield firm First4InjuryClaims and sister company First4Lawyers took part in a ‘reverse advent calendar’ for their local food bank, The Welcome Centre. Colleagues collected more than 120 food items topped off with a £1,000 donation from the business, which is in its fifth year of supporting the charity.
Representatives of Barcan Kirby’s values committee collected items for foodbanks near its offices including Refresh Bedminster, Family Food Action, Kingswood Kitchen and North Bristol & South Glos Foodbank, which are being delivered before Christmas and in the new year.
The firm’s charity and social committee also raised an incredible £1,325 on the night of their Christmas party for St Peter’s Hospice by organising a raffle with prizes kindly donated by local organisations and a promise auction in which members of staff raffled off different promises for colleagues to bid on.
Redkite Solicitors staff across its 17 offices in England and Wales have come together to support their communities. Each office has donated to a local food bank of their choice, while staff have also been busy raising money and contributing gifts to incredible charities like 2wish, Teckles, County Air Ambulance Trust, and Llamau.
Manchester firm Myerson Solicitors held a toy drive where members of staff were invited to bring in new and good condition used toys, which were then delivered to local charity shops both to support the charities and help families buy cheaper presents ahead of Christmas. It also held a Christmas raffle in support of Andy’s Man Club, a cause that is close to the hearts of many Myerson staff.
Members of Jackson Lees, MAPD group and Bermans took part in the Liverpool Santa Dash on the 7 December in memory of Gemma Woodier, who sadly passed away in October 2022. Gemma worked at Bermans for 20 years and was a much-loved friend and colleague.
Together they raised £1,516 for the Beacon Counselling Trust which was very close to Gemma’s heart, as it is to all her family, friends and her colleagues at Bermans and across the MAPD Group.
TLT’s Belfast team cycled more than 161km to raise funds in aid of Orchardville – a charity that supports people with learning disabilities and autism - last week, raising nearly £400.
Gardner Leader’s Christmas initiatives this year were in support of its charity of the year, Prospect Hospice. The charity provides vital care to those with life-limiting illnesses in northeast Wiltshire and the surrounding areas.
