Global technology and business legal consultancy Biztech Lawyers has appointed specialist commercial technology lawyer Alison Berryman to head its new UK operation.
The consultancy has opened offices in London, having an already-established standing in Australia and the US.
Berryman joins Biztech from Stephenson Law, where she was head of technology law and data protection. She works with tech scale-ups and SMEs, and provides commercial legal advice on customer deals and data protection compliance.
As Biztech’s head of UK, Berryman will build a team to execute the firm’s growth plans and provide global solutions to commercial issues faced by businesses working in and with the tech sector.
The UK office will service innovative companies from the UK, as well as those from further afield with UK and European legal requirements. It will assist globally-connected clients searching for creative and considered cross-border legal advice.
Biztech’s US managing director and principal Chris Spillman commented: 'We have had the UK market on our radar since we merged the Australian and US practices in July 2021.
'Securing Alison as part of the team is a vision realised. We are excited to work with her and to grow our UK team even further. She gives us an early opportunity to reach our fourth continent in less than 18 months – and Asia is next!
'Alison brings with her nearly two decades’ experience of working with ambitious tech companies, so we are delighted to have her in the team. With the addition of a UK offering, Biztech Lawyers now has even greater capability to enhance clients’ global business plans around the clock.'
Berryman added: 'I see the move to Biztech Lawyers as an opportunity to be part of something really exciting: a law firm with a start-up’s disruptive mentality, always innovating and refining its practices. But it is a firm that already has a sizeable presence outside my own jurisdiction and is looking to grow even further.'
