Residents of Coronation Street no longer need live in fear of miscarriages of justice. Following Memory Lane’s account of the poor legal advice offered to Brian Tilsley back in 1981, we have been assured by Susan Singleton, a member of the Law Society’s press panel, that the programme now consults the profession.

She regularly provides pro bono guidance ‘usually on corporate law storylines’. Obiter wasn’t aware that corporate law was a hot topic down the Rovers Return, but Singleton isn’t breaking any client confidences. ‘I am probably the least appropriate person to [advise the programme] as I do not watch television,’ she writes disarmingly.

‘At least I can be guaranteed not to gossip about forthcoming storylines.’
