On 29 September we lost our treasured colleague Jess. Jess was a dedicated and passionate family lawyer who truly cared about making a difference to the lives of her clients and their children. Jess was 37.

As a career changer Jess qualified in April after training with the firm. She made an impact way beyond her years of qualification and had committed herself to improving the lives of children and families involved in complex legally aided cases with local authority involvement.

Jess never shied away from the challenges these cases bring. She embraced the opportunity to properly explore the complexities, going the extra mile to really listen to her clients’ concerns and adopting a pragmatic, problem solving approach to finding a way forward which would best safeguard children. She was a tireless fighter, a shrewd negotiator and a kind and empathetic advisor.

Tributes from the clients whose lives she profoundly touched have been pouring in.

One client wrote: ‘Jessica was an amazing person and a wonderful solicitor. If it wasn’t for her, who knows what would have happened to my children.’

Founding director Jenny Beck KC (Hon) said: 'I feel privileged to have worked with Jess. Her integrity, kindness and bravery made her the astonishing lawyer she became. Her skill and commitment were way in advance of her years of qualification. Our family law community has lost a real champion. Clients and colleagues adored her, and with good reason.'

Our thoughts are with Jessica’s family at this difficult time.
