A memorial service is to be held this Friday for criminal practitioner and animal welfare advocate David Hugh Buck who has died unexpectedly at 62.

David Buck: 'A formidable and tenacious litigator'

Buck was educated at Windsor Grammar School for boys and studied law at Durham University. He was admitted in 1987 and established Sussex criminal law practice David Buck & Co in 1997. For over 20 years he specialised in prosecuting on behalf of non-police authorities including the RSPCA alongside criminal defence work.

He was a highly valued advocate for animal welfare. 

His family said: 'David had a reputation as a formidable and tenacious litigator in Sussex and beyond. He was known for his sense of fairness, professionalism and fierce intellect.'

He died suddenly and unexpectedly on 5 January 2024 aged 62. He leaves a widow, Joanna McWilliam, and two sons, James and Henry.

A memorial service will be held at St Leonard’s Church, Seaford, on 16 February at 11am. Donations instead of flowers to RSPCA or Music for All c/o Cooper & Son funeral directors, 19 Clinton Pl, Seaford, East Sussex BN25 1NP.
