Lawyers from top law firms Weil, Gotshal & Manges, CMS, Mishcon de Reya and Ince were making a noise at London’s legendary 100 Club last night. The event was the first to be organised in London by charity Law Rocks in more than two long years and was put together in just two weeks to raise money for Ukraine.
The night opened with a solo performance by the multi-talented Rob Powell, director of pro bono at Weil Gotshal. Next up were Law Rocks veterans The Stragglers from CMS, fronted by infrastructure and finance partner Paul Smith.
A nine-piece act, Midtown Funk from Mishcon de Reya, turned up the heat, featuring: Suzi Sendama on vocals, Jamie Barton, lead guitar, Simon Hunter, rhythm guitar, James Smith, bass guitar, Kevin McCarthy sax / flute, Lizzi Horner - sax, Andrew Rimmington on trumpet / Jazz flugelhorn / percussion, Andy May on keys and Janith Perera on drums.
The MBs soul-flavoured band put together by one of the driving forces of the event, Julian Clark, an Ince senior partner and shipping specialist, ended the evening in style.
Law Rocks has so far raised £28,000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, founder Nick Child tells Obiter.
