Firm’s discount a great result for Pool of law

Ever the fan of a bargain, Obiter may have to take a trip to Victoria Park, home of League Two side Hartlepool United, to take advantage of some discounted legal services.

The club’s fans are being offered 10% off selected services by national firm Simpson Millar, as the two continue a long-established association (the firm sponsors the Rink End stand at Pools’ ground and is an official club partner). 

Laudably, the firm also gives back 5% of all fees to Hartlepool’s youth development programme to support and develop the club’s future stars.

The credentials needed for being classed as a Hartlepool fan for the purposes of the discount are not totally clear, but naming Nicky Featherstone as captain or simply being Jeff Stelling should probably suffice.

The club even enlisted club legend Adam Boyd to record a promotional video, giving six reasons why fans should choose Simpson Millar ‘for all their solicitor needs’. Obiter particularly liked the final reason: ‘Because Adam Boyd says so!’

Boyd was a natural in front of goal but perhaps not so in front of the camera, giving off the air of someone kept hostage and made to read out a message. As one fan tweeted in response: ‘Feel like Boyd should have been holding today’s newspaper n telling his family he’s ok.’ The full video is here.
