City firm Clyde & Co has continued its expansion with the formal takeover of Canadian insurance specialist Nicholl Paskell-Mede.

The London-based firm recently announced a merger with Barlow Lyde & Gilbert and has now crossed the Atlantic for a further tie-up.

As with the BLG deal, the Clyde & Co name will be retained, with the Montreal and Toronto offices of Nicholl Paskell-Mede trading under that banner.

Clyde & Co partner and board member James Burns said: ‘Our expansion into Canada is consistent with our strategy of providing a full service to our clients in our core sectors in key strategic locations.

‘With its strong economy and significant insurance market, Canada was an obvious choice.’

Clyde & Co now has more than 1,400 partners and staff working from 25 offices across five continents.

The merger with Nicholl Paskell-Mede was announced in June and officially commenced on 1 September. The BLG merger is set to be completed on 1 November.
