A British lawyer has been confirmed as one of the victims of the Australian mountain landslide earlier this week.
Mehraab Nazir, 49, died with his nine-year-old son at the scene while hiking in Australia’s Blue Mountains. His wife is in hospital in a critical condition while another son, 14, is stable after surgery.
Nazir, admitted in 1999, was a partner at international firm Watson Farley & Williams working in Singapore, where his family moved more than a decade ago. He specialised in complex cross-border transactions with a particular focus on the transport and energy sectors. In 2020, Legal 500 reported a client as noting that he was ‘solution-driven, highly efficient, pro-active and always available’.
Nazir’s LinkedIn profile shows he joined WFW in 2008 and studied at the University of Exeter.
In a statement, the firm said: ‘It is with the greatest sadness that we must confirm that our dear friend and colleague Mehraab Nazir, a partner in our Singapore office, tragically lost his life in a landslide in Australia earlier this week alongside his young son. We will be remembering and honouring Mehraab, however, with the surviving members of the family in serious conditions or in shock, we ask that you respect their privacy and grief at this incredibly difficult time.’
The bodies of the two victims were recovered from the mountains about 60 miles from Sydney at 9.30am local time on Tuesday.
