Dementia is impacting on thousands of families across Manchester and North Trafford. Many people find themselves completely without support, and struggle to navigate the complexities of health and social care, as well as daily life.
Life beyond a dementia diagnosis does not have to be lonely or boring. We provide post-diagnosis rehabilitation support in the form of a vibrant community-based activities programme. We hold weekly Friendship & Activities groups across Manchester including a group for South Asian elders. Two dementia choirs meet monthly and our Fabulous Forgetful Friends group discusses issues impacting on their lives and offers training to professionals. Together at Home is designed to match volunteers with people who can’t attend groups. Our mini buses are in action every day. We rely on volunteers and a small staff team to make fun possible for our members. We give a lot of people a reason to get up in the morning and keep going.
Our Carers Support work sustains hundreds of carers, many of whom are providing expert care for loved ones, whilst juggling a multitude of responsibilities. The dementia carer journey can be very tough. Training, Zoom meetings, WhatsApp peer support groups, home visits and activities are all designed to help carers. We build trust so that when a carer is reaching breaking point they feel able to seek our help. Compassionate personal contact, peer support, information, advice and referrals are offered.
There are several ways you can leave a gift to Together Dementia Support. Gifts that are free from restrictions are particularly helpful as they are put towards TDS’ most urgent work. However, if you would like a gift to be used to support a particular purpose, you can specify this. For more information, please contact us directly. Thank you for considering Together Dementia Support.
