A gift in your Will today could impact a child’s future life chances

One in four children leave primary school unable to read to the expected standard. This makes it harder for them to fully access their secondary education and negatively affects their life chances. By placing reading volunteers in state primary schools, Schoolreaders allows children to explore books and improve their reading comprehension, fluency and enjoyment with a reliable, dependable adult.

Schoolreaders recruits, places and supports volunteers and engages schools – especially in areas of deprivation – to provide regular, one-to-one reading support, for free. Gifts, including those left in Wills, help us to provide this service.

Can you be part of Schoolreaders’ future?

By remembering Schoolreaders in your Will, you will be directly helping to improve children’s literacy and increase their life chances. One in six adults has poor literacy. What would life be like for you if you couldn’t read this text, a note from a loved one, or a medicine packet? Schoolreaders is working to ensure this doesn’t happen for the next generation. Over the past decade, Schoolreaders volunteers have provided more than two million one-to-one reading sessions to 80,000 children. This week, 2,700 children will read with a Schoolreaders volunteer.

To help the next generation of children, please consider including Schoolreaders in your Will. To adapt yours, please visit schoolreaders.org/legacies for a template codicil form and more information.

Thank you.

“The volunteers add great value and enrichment to the pupils, who look forward to the time spent valuing books together, talking and making connections with other experiences. The books are sometimes chosen to link with a child’s interest or to enrich learning of subjects taught in lessons and to broaden vocabulary. The volunteers report enjoying the time spent with the children as worthwhile and enriching too!”
