Registered Charity No: 1000388 (England & Wales)

The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) has been leading the way in specialist education since 1872 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2022.

We are a residential College of further education, supporting young people aged 16 -25 years who are blind or visually impaired. The College underpins academic and vocational subjects with training in mobility, assistive technology, Braille, and specialist skills for life such as money management, cookery skills, laundry and shopping.

More than this, we encourage achievement beyond the classroom – developing self-confidence, personal independence and communication skills, vital for every student’s future. Students participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, individual and team sport through our nationally renowned Sports Academy, overseas travel, cultural experiences, and a range of recreational hobbies.

Students go on to university, into employment, and volunteering in their own communities. Most importantly, they become independent and confident adults who achieve extraordinary things.

The RNC experience is unique, but we need ongoing support to maintain and improve campus facilities and equipment, and to offer new and fulfilling enrichment opportunities.

The charity raises additional funds every year to support its work. Gifts in Wills are an important part of our unrestricted income, allowing us to direct funds where they are most needed to support our students.
