Make a BIG difference! Support the British Deaf Association

Founded in 1890, the British Deaf Association (BDA) is a national Deaf-led organisation that works directly with Deaf people who use British Sign Language (BSL) and Irish Sign Language (ISL).

The BDA stands for Deaf Equality, Access and Freedom of Choice, and we are leading the campaign to achieve legal status for BSL and ISL.

90% of Deaf children are born to hearing parents who have little or no understanding of deafness. We have a number of programmes aimed at supporting young Deaf people and helping families with Deaf children to learn BSL and ISL to improve family communication and interaction.

Your donations and legacies can make a real difference.

Please help us achieve our goal of ensuring Deaf people of all ages have equal access to public services such as healthcare and education and to play a full and active role in society in their first or preferred language – BSL/ISL.

  • Preserving and promoting our languages: BSL and ISL
  • Protecting our Deaf culture and identity
  • Empowering our community through Advocacy campaigns
  • Providing workshops on equality in legal, civil and human rights
  • Enabling Deaf children and young people to thrive
