CPRE, the countryside charity
Established in 1926, we are the only charity that aims to promote, enhance and protect the countryside for us all to enjoy. We’re here for woodland, farmland, green spaces, nature reserves and so much more. With a local CPRE in every county, we work with communities, businesses and government to find positive and lasting ways to help the countryside thrive - today and for generations to come.
English Heritage Trust, The
From world-famous prehistoric sites to grand medieval castles, Roman forts on the edges of an empire to a Cold War bunker, we care for hundreds of historic sites in every part of England, from international icons to local treasures. We open them up, share their stories and find new ways for everybody to enjoy, play, learn and create. Protecting and maintaining these special places for the nation, as well as over a million objects in our care, is the cornerstone of everything we do.
Global Returns Project
Climate change and nature loss are global problems needing global solutions. The Global Returns Project makes it easy to support the world’s highest impact charities tackling climate change and biodiversity loss. The ecosystems our charities protect and regenerate are home to endangered animals, birds and insects.
Open Spaces Society
As Britain’s oldest national conservation body, we protect and preserve commons, public paths, and green spaces. At the Open Spaces Society, we have campaigned to protect commons, greens, and paths for more nearly 160 years. All these are under threat in various ways including from neglect, illegal obstructions and the pressure of new developments. Any gift in wills, large or small, makes a vital difference and enables us to defend the places and paths which are some of our nation’s finest assets.
Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB)
The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings gives our built heritage a bright future. Through our campaigning and training, research and repair we keep old buildings useful, beautiful and part of people’s lives. From cottages to castles and from churches to cathedrals we are here to help buildings and the people who care for them.
Barn Owl Trust
The Barn Owl Trust is a small national charity tucked away in South Devon that has been doing big things to conserve and protect not only the Barn Owl, but also the wider conservation and environmental issues that surround this beautiful bird. Anyone who has ever watched a Barn Owl hunting at dusk has surely been touched by the experience, but in recent years numbers of these beautiful birds have been declining due to environmental and man-made pressures.
Bumblebee Conservation Trust
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust was established because of serious concerns about the ‘plight of the bumblebee’. In the last 80 years our bumblebee populations have crashed. Two species have become nationally extinct and several others have declined dramatically. Bumblebees are familiar and much-loved insects that pollinate our crops and wildflowers, so people are rightly worried.
Campaign for National Parks
We are the only independent charity dedicated to securing the future of the 13 National Parks in England and Wales: from Dartmoor, Exmoor, the South Downs, the New Forest, the Peak District, The Broads, Lake District, Northumberland, North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks in England and Eryri (Snowdonia), Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and Pembrokeshire Coast National Parks in Wales.
Compassion in World Farming International
The challenges of building a humane and sustainable world have never been greater. Against a backdrop of a population explosion and soaring food prices, intensive livestock farming poses a very real threat to our planet. Greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, biodiversity loss and water scarcity are all disastrous consequences of factory farming.
Cymdeithas Eryri – The Snowdonia Society
We’re investing in Eryri’s future. Each year we create quality opportunities for hundreds of young people through our acclaimed programme of volunteering, training, and work experience. These are the future guardians of precious places like Snowdonia - and more widely across these islands.
