I was trying to understand what “a ‘broader view’ of what access to justice means”.

My initial thought was that either an individual can effectively participate in the process, with proper representation, or they can’t.

Then it struck me - the ‘broader view’ is that as long as it looks as though they can, that’s enough; it doesn’t matter that they can’t in reality.

That’s a novel twist on justice being seen to be done!
