The context of all this lack of preparation (as is made clear in the report - see para 37) are cuts in legal aid which take a heavy toll on clients who are among the most vulnerable and most in need of quality legal advice in the UK. It's not a solicitors v barristers issue, its about funding and training. There are a lot of valid but very concerning issues raised in the report and barristers and solicitors will need to work together to resolve them. Need for a combined interest group report/working group that factors in views and research from solicitors, barristers, clients, judges and the Home Office?
