I have long searched through the list of honours for names I recognise. Some I do and I am not always impressed. Those featured are usually working for public bodies eg Civil Service, Local Government, CPS or are Academics. I assume there is a procedure in such organizations to select worthy recipients. Short of schmoozing up to someone of influence at a party how would a poor Family Legal Aid lawyer get a look in? Looking back at thirty plus years at the coal face I ask myself "Was it worth it?" Of course it was because, despite the sleepless nights, I actually enjoyed it. I can look back with satisfaction that colleagues and I were able to ensure that voices were heard, particularly those of children, to make a difference to their lives
