I totally agree with this article , as someone who deals with this area and knows the labyrinthine complexity of the different regimes. The announcement is a good soundbite but is more confusing than ever for a lawyer who has read the many options the Law Commission put forward in their papers. My confidence in the competence in writer of the legislation fell when I saw in the press release that they thought that the difference between leasehold and freehold was "A freeholder owns both the property and the land it stands on while leaseholders only own the property." This nonsense appeared in the first edition of the govts '"guide to leasing' a year or so ago until it was pulled after myself and others pointed out this urban myth
