There's no limit to the number of Duty Solicitors. They are limiting the number of duty contracts. And there is bound to be a pro rata reduction in auditing costs. They see large firms benefiting from the economies of scale and able to do criminal work at a lower cost. The present system is unsustainable.There are too many solicitors chasing a dwindling amount of work. TLS agree.
If MoJ lose the JR, I'll bet they will simply reduce the fees to squeeze firms out or force consolidation. As I said before. I don't think you'll like that process. There will be cuts in the Legal Aid budget 2015-2020.
