I'm in the same boat as the writer. It is very stressful and worrying. Whilst it may not seem important how well-educated a 4 year old is, what is extremely important is the quality of interaction they have. If you have to work and home school older children then it may well be the case that your (my) 4 year old is getting practically no quality interaction throughout the day.

If there were sensible solutions, then no doubt the writer would be exploring those in earnest. In fact, she probably tries different solutions each week with varying degrees of success. However the problem doesn't go away. It doesn't get easier.

In hindsight, it would have been relatively simple to keep year 11 and yr 6 in school and provide an easy access on-line lesson/worksheet syllabus for 6 weeks that every other child (KS1 up) could access and which their teachers could support and feedback on. This should be a national approach. If the home schooling at that level were properly managed for KS1 and above, then the issue with 0-4 becomes less of an issue. Teachers have time to plan how they will move forward from week 6. This would have been simple, but unfortunately the short-sighted have prevailed once again.
