The Solicitors Regulation Authority has promised a ‘comprehensive review’ of problems encountered in its first year of online renewals.

The regulator said it wants to respond to criticism of the system after the deadline for renewing practising certificates passed last week. Around half of the expected applications have still to be fully completed. The review will begin with an online survey for feedback of mySRA from practitioners.

Survey results will form the basis of a series of workshops across the country, coordinated by the Law Society regional managers.

Mike Jeacock, SRA chief operating officer, said: ‘Changing the way we carried out the renewals process was wholly necessary and the introduction of mySRA in the long run will save everyone time and money.

‘However, we have no illusions about how frustrating this year's renewals process has been, for all concerned, and we want to avoid a similar situation next time around.’

The online survey can be found on the SRA site. Those interested in taking part in the workshops, which are being co-ordinated with assistance from the Law Society’s regional managers, are asked to email their request.
