A Berkshire firm set up by a former City high-flyer has been shut down by the SRA over suspicions of dishonesty.
The regulator said yesterday it had intervened into Kirsten Von Wedel, effectively closing her firm K Law Solicitors, based in Ascot, with immediate effect.
The decision notice announcing the closure states there was reason to suspect dishonesty by Von Wedel in connection with her practice as a solicitor. It also states that Von Wedel has failed to comply with rules made under the Solicitors Act 1974. No further details are given about the intervention.
The firm’s website confirms it has been closed by the SRA and direct clients and other interested parties to Dorset firm Lester Aldridge LLP, which is handling its affairs.
K Law was founded by Von Wedel almost 14 years ago and described itself as a private client firm for ultra high net worth international and regional clients. It specialised in private client tax and inheritance planning and commercial advice and contracts.
Von Wedel qualified as a solicitor 18 years ago and according to the firm’s website she was head-hunted at the start of her career to set up a European commercial insurance division for a major City firm. She went on to work for the firms Charsley Harrison LLP and Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP before starting her own firm.
