International firm Simmons & Simmons has joined forces with Canadian firm Fasken Martineau to boost their presence in Africa.
The alliance takes effect today. Both firms have a strong presence in the region. Since its merger with South African firm Bell Dewar in February 2013 Fasken Martineau has more than 80 lawyers in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In 2013 Thomson Reuters ranked Simmons & Simmons as the third-top legal adviser of announced deals with sub-Saharan African involvement.
Fasken’s managing partner David Corbett said: ‘Fasken Martineau has long been recognised for our unique understanding of the African marketplace. This alliance with Simmons & Simmons allows us to further expand our capabilities and the services which we offer clients.’
Simmons posted a 7% rise in turnover for 2013/14, with revenue up to £268m. Average profit per equity partner increased 6% to £553,000.
