Consultant solicitor Dr Ruby Bhatti OBE says she is 'humbled' and 'honoured' to be named as deputy lieutenant for West Yorkshire.
Deputy lieutenants are appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant and assist them in their role as the King's representative for the county.
Bhatti, who has worked in the legal field for over 30 years, was awarded an OBE in the 2019 New Year’s Honours list in housing and young people. She was also awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bradford in 2020.
She sits on various panels at national, regional and local level for health and research, and has over 27 years' experience as a non executive director supporting charities, local community centres and social enterprise organisations.
Bhatti commented: 'I look forward to serving the community, the King, and the Lord-Lieutenant in his work to champion and support the County and people of West Yorkshire.
'I feel privileged to be given a further opportunity to continue my sincere commitment to working with diverse communities and carry on making a difference to society as a whole.
'I am also delighted to be able to support my fellow Deputy Lieutenants with the wonderful work already taking place within the communities in West Yorkshire.'
