Exeter and East Devon has lost a dedicated and compassionate solicitor on the passing of Patrick du Plessis Langrishe, who died unexpectedly at home on 26 December 2022, aged 70.

Patrick was born to parents John, a retired captain in the Royal Artillery and solicitor, and Edwina on 19 January 1952.

After completing his education Patrick went on to study law at Exeter University before qualifying as a solicitor in 1980 and working as a clerk to the justices in the old City of Exeter Magistrates Court.

In 1981 Patrick joined Symes Robinson and Lee and was made a partner in 1983, subsequently becoming a partner in Gilbert Stephens in 2013 when the firms merged. He specialised in family law work but had a keen interest in all other branches of the law. He had the rare ability to communicate with clients and colleagues in a clear and uncomplicated way. He was a solicitor of the 'old school' and took great pride in supporting clients over difficult times and helping where he thought there was an injustice. He was also immensely supportive of his colleagues and everyone he worked with – especially over the last few very difficult years.

Patrick was also a keen observer of life and everything that was going on around him. Colleagues could often expect an email or telephone call about the hot topic of the day – legal or otherwise – and Patrick’s take on it!

Patrick was a proud husband and father and is survived by his wife Lynda, who he married in 1972, and their six children.

He will be greatly missed by friends, colleagues and professional contacts alike.
