We had almost forgotten ever asking, but Obiter is happy to report the Ministry of Justice has finally responded to our latest freedom of information request, albeit two months’ late.

The department was asked to name how many times each member of the new ministerial team attended a court in person and how many times justice secretary Dominic Raab had met a solicitor or barrister in a formal capacity.

No one seems to be writing down who the lord chancellor is meeting

Alas, it appears we may never know. Some three months after making the request, the MoJ has got back to us to say it has been rejected.

The (non?) Disclosure and MoJ Library Team explained that the Freedom of Information Act gives us the right of access to all types of information, but crucially for the purposes of handling a request it must be for ‘recorded information’. We can only assume no-one is writing down who Raab and his cohorts are meeting in their respective roles.

The response suggests we may wish to re-submit our enquiry direct to the MoJ, which we’ll do straight away. On current form, we’ll report back with their response near the end of May.
