The Junior Lawyers Division annual dinner proved to be a revealing affair.

Members of the executive committee were asked by chair Max Harris to introduce themselves with not just a simple ‘hello’ but, to the delight of guests including Law Society vice-president Jonathan Smithers (pictured), an interesting fact about themselves.

It turns out that one member part-funded her LPC with winnings from a TV quiz show, while another was a radio DJ at university. Obiter’s favourite was the ex-farmer who used to work 90-hour weeks.

The biggest talking point came thanks to Harris himself, who revealed he was a big fan of mathematical paradoxes, and left guests with a brain teaser to solve – the Monty Hall problem. Obiter is still trying to figure that one out.
