The Law Society RFC has closed entries for this year’s 7s & Netball Tournament with 24 rugby, 24 netball and 12 mixed tag teams entering from 36 law and financial services firms. The tournament takes place next month at Richmond Rugby Ground.
The last winners (in 2019) Birketts LLP (rugby) and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (netball) are back and looking to retain their titles. They will be joined by regular attendees as well as new entrants Ropes and Gray, Harbour Litigation Funding and Accenture.
Brockwell Capital, a Lloyd’s provider of bespoke insurance products, are back as sponsors and will be providing teams with rugby balls and netballs to use on the day and take-away.
Given the past 18 months, it’s a small miracle that the tournament is going ahead. Daniel How, tournament director, is especially excited by the number of teams who have signed up: ‘A few months ago we were worried whether the tournament would go ahead at all. We’ve had a great response from the firms and their players and are really happy with the traction the mixed tag side of the tournament has already gained. We’re looking forward to welcoming all the teams, and want to extend the invite to their friends, family and co-workers.’
The tournament is supporting charity LawCare, which works to promote good mental health and wellbeing in legal workplaces. Its volunteers will be on site looking to reach out to as many young lawyers as possible.
