Nasreen Anderson is a solicitor who packs quite a punch. The in-house lawyer for the Royal College of Nursing has been boxing for 14 years, winning competitions across Europe along the way.

Now she is fronting This Girl Can ‘We Need Your Sweat Patches’, a movement to encourage more women into sport ahead of this month’s Sport Relief charity campaign.

‘There are too many women who don’t train for fear of what people might think of them, or think they might not be good enough,’ said Anderson. ‘I’m trying to spread the message it doesn’t matter how good you are or what else you have going on, this is just about breaking through the barriers.’

Anderson is appearing in video and poster adverts for the campaign and has already attracted her fair share of attention, with one newspaper describing her as ‘badass’.

She started boxing almost by accident (‘my local gym was too expensive, but the community centre was only £1.50’). She has seen women’s boxing grow from a niche pursuit, which until recently was banned, to a recognised Olympic sport.

Anderson admits one extra motivation for helping with the campaign. The 48kg flyweight said: ‘I have had one competition which I won by default as there was no one at my weight to fight. I would love to have more girls to fight.’
