It’s the end of an era at Yorkshire firm Morrish Law, where the staff roll-call will not feature a Morrish for the first time in more than 100 years.

Senior partner Tom Morrish will retire at the end of this month and bring a long line of Morrishs to a close. The firm itself was formed in 1882 and took the name HB James & Morrish after the First World War, incorporating solicitor Eric Morrish.

Tom’s uncle John joined in the late 1940s and his father Richard followed through the door a decade later. Tom qualified in 1992 and picked up the family baton, going on to lead the firm’s wills and estates team for 20 years and serving as senior partner for six.

The firm – which became simply Morrish Solicitors in 2009 – has grown to a staff of almost 70 working from four offices in West Yorkshire.

Tom said: ‘It’s been a privilege to work at Morrish Solicitors during such a successful period in its history. I’ve endeavoured to maintain the high standards set by my forebears and, with the current partners and staff, am delighted that the firm is in a strong position for the future. I leave the firm in good hands.’

Partner Emma Garfitt will take over as head of the wills and estates team, as well as managing the branch in Yeadon, from next month. The Morrish name, meanwhile, will continue – even without a Morrish on the team.
