Property portal set to go live
The Law Society has unveiled a plan to revolutionise residential conveyancing by handling transactions online. A conveyancing web portal, expected to go live in 2014, will streamline the process, improve communication between parties, save costs and time and improve risk management, the Society said.

Clementi unveils five-step plan
David Clementi this week set out the priorities for his regulatory review of legal services, focusing on five ‘architectural issues’ which will form the bedrock of the new shape of regulation. They are: institutional structures and the regulatory maze; the level of self-regulation and professionalism within the industry; the handling of complaints against lawyers; unregulated providers; and new business structures.

40% of the profession are under 35
The Society is engaged in the preparation of a new ‘integrated modular data system’, which can be translated as ‘a system for combining lots of different bits of information about solicitors’. Pending the creation and operation of this general data system, it may be of interest that at the present time about 40% of the profession are under 35.

Students in London
There will be a large number of students requiring somewhere to live while they are attending courses for Part 1 of the Qualifying Examination at the College of Law in Lancaster Gate. The college has maintained a list of approved lodgings in which it will be possible for a student to obtain a private room and all meals for £7 12s. 6d. for seven days.
Barber at the Society’s Hall
A barber is now in attendance at the Society’s Hall, initially from 11am to 3.30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, though the service may be extended if support from members justifies it.
