Frances Davies, director of Leeds specialist firm Progeny Private Law, and her crewmates ‘The Yorkshire Rows’ have achieved a world record by being the oldest-all-women crew to row an ocean.
The team of four, also including Niki Doeg, Helen Butters, and Janette Benaddi, have rowed across the Atlantic completing the 3,000-mile Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, arriving in Antigua this week. The crew set off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands on 20 December.
Davies said: ‘We have had a hurricane, power failures, attacks from flying fish, seasickness and injuries, but despite the lack of comfort we seem to be close to tears when we think about the adventure coming to an end.’
The women have already raised nearly £10,000 for charities Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
