Most law students learn about mediation at some point in their legal training. The art of meditation, however, is harder to come by.
BPP Law School is trying to change that. In order to prepare its students for the stress of the workplace, the university is transforming classrooms in Holborn and Leeds into meditation studios, and is creating modules on anxiety control and ‘mindfulness on the go’.
Students will also be able to listen to specially commissioned audio meditations on their smartphones about self-care, work/life balance and getting a good night’s sleep.
BPP’s wellbeing drive follows research published earlier this year by the Junior Lawyers Division, which showed that stress and mental health issues among young lawyers are still on the rise.
BPP’s pop-up meditation studios promise ‘Europe’s first ever surround-sound guided meditation experience’. Obiter will be first in line to try that out.
