Obiter would question the sense of anyone watching the circus masquerading as a boxing match when Mike Tyson, 58, fights YouTuber Jake Paul tonight.
One US law firm will not just be watching but will have spent a cool $2m (around £1.6m) for the most exclusive seats in the house.
Reports from the States state that the VIP package to beat all packages – billed as the MVP Owner’s Experience - has been snapped up by personal injury firm TorkLaw.
The deal includes exclusive use of a two-person suite built ringside, visible throughout Netflix’s live broadcast, which promoters say is the closest that any patron has ever got to a boxing match.
The package extends to eight ringside seats, a spot onstage at weigh-in, a locker room visit with both boxers, photos with them after the fight and multiple pairs of autographed gloves.
Korosh Torkzadeh, a partner at TorkLaw, told USA Today: ‘Life and sport often reflect each other in their unpredictability. At TorkLaw, as we spend our days fighting for our clients both inside and outside the courtroom, we see in boxing the same determination required to face life’s toughest battles.
‘Our involvement in this event is more than just support for sport — it’s a celebration of the human spirit and the strength it takes to keep fighting, no matter the odds.’
Investing such sums in a sporting occasion that could be over in a moment might normally be a risk, but given the estimated number of viewers, Obiter suspects this clash might go the distance. If it does, the firm will have spent $125,000 for every minute of action. We hope it’s worth it.
