Jolyon Maugham QC – the tax silk turned legal crusader and founder of the Good Law Project – divides opinion, it is fair to say. But he certainly does not lack for self-confidence judging by the tempting offer he has made to the public to raise money for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.
One lucky auction bidder can have dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant – plus ‘a selection of wines from Jolyon’s own cellar’ – with the man himself for (at the time of writing) no less than £625.
‘Jolyon Maugham QC is the founder of The Good Law Project – so there’s no doubt that he’d make a fascinating dinner guest,’ according to the lot’s description.
The one-night-only offer is one of several lots in a wine-related auction to raise money for humanitarian aid in Ukraine called, fittingly, Wine Unites for Ukraine – which has already raised more than £28,000.
Obiter is unaware if the winning bidder will have to pay extra for Maugham to show up in a kimono, but it is surely worthwhile for a good cause.
