We all know it is now a requirement for politicians to drop their aitches if they want to appeal to the masses.

Now, it seems, the bar may be going down the same road. Obiter notes reports last week of a training session at Middle Temple at which barristers were encouraged to come across as ‘less pompous’. The event formed part of the inn’s ‘Survive and Thrive’ series. Barristers are also being encouraged to call themselves ‘legal entrepreneurs’, to learn how to ‘work a room’ and to make their business seem more modern and vibrant. Good luck with that.
