Wrexham law firm GHP Legal has announced that Amy Rowley, who walked past the firm each day on her way to college, has qualified as a criminal lawyer.

It turns out that Rowley took a slight detour in her journey to the legal profession. She attended Coleg Cambria, across the road from GHP Legal’s head office, before embarking on an undergraduate degree in journalism at the University of Chester. Her passion for criminal law emerged while she was court reporting at Chester Crown Court as part of her degree.

Rowley: 'I wanted to be down there, in all of the action'

‘I had the realisation sitting in the court that I didn’t want to be in the public gallery - I wanted to be down there, in all of the action,’ she said.

After completing a qualifying law master’s degree and postgraduate diploma in legal practice, Rowley joined GHP Legal as a paralegal in 2022. She then entered the firm’s solicitor-training programme.

Journalism’s loss is the legal profession’s gain.
