City lawyer Hannah’s last-gasp shot at staying in Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins series ran out of puff. On day seven of the course, candidates had to put on gas masks and then run two kilometres to their first task. But Hannah and her partner were soon trailing, much to the chagrin of chief instructor Ant.
‘No 20 – you’re a complete liability to this whole team and to your partner. There is an option for you where you can keep your dignity,’ he roared.
Obiter has felt the lactic burning racing to the pub for last orders but Hannah’s discomfort was at a different level, struggling for breath through her respirator. Still she bravely ploughed on with Ant’s encouragement ringing in her ears. ‘You’re literally being dragged along because you’re f****** useless.’
Then she pulled up, took off her mask and arm band, becoming the tenth recruit to leave the course. ‘It’s definitely the right thing to do,’ concluded Ant. Still at least the course perhaps fulfilled Hannah’s expectations: ‘This course is going to be an eye-opener for me, being stripped down, physically, to your weakness.’
SAS: Who Dares Wins is on Channel 4 on Sunday (9pm)
