Solicitors who tuned in to a session on mental health and wellbeing during National Conveyancing Week last week may now be busy trying to persuade their bosses to make their firm employee-owned, after learning that staff at Ison Harrison Solicitors received a profit share of £4,000 each just before Christmas. The previous year they received £3,600.
Solicitor Jenny Bland, who heads Ison Harrison’s residential property and new build conveyancing departments, told the event that staff who have been with the firm for at least 12 months get the same cut, whether they be partner, receptionist or office junior. An equal split also means staff feeling comfortable discussing how they spent their cash.
What did Bland do with her share? ‘I got a new garage door, which is incredibly boring.’ Boring? Obiter, who would have spent such a windfall sorting the rising damp in our own abode, respectfully disagrees.
