The weather smiled - at least by the standards of the past month - on the 120 intrepid lawyers and other colleagues concerned about access to justice who inaugurated the new legal walking season on Saturday. Lead walker Lord Justice Haddon-Cave set the pace by running a full marathon between Tower Bridge and Hampton Court. Less spritely types made do with a half marathon to Putney. It is rumoured that one or two teams found a pub along the way.

The event has so far raised £13,000 for the London Legal Support Trust, which supports free frontline legal services

Next date in the diary: 18 October, for the return of the full London Legal Walk.
