Any readers fancy a bracing day out on the water? It’s nearly time for the highlight of the Law Society Yacht Club’s year – a day racing in classic boats off the Isle of Wight. On Sunday 9 June the Law Society will be taking on teams from the Bar Yacht Club and the House of Commons/House of Lords Sailing Club.

The day’s races take place at the Seaview Yacht Club, which maintains a unique fleet of one-design ‘Mermaid’ racing dayboats. These take a crew of three and the club has a couple of places available. Cost per member is £75, with the balance subsidised by the Law Society Yacht Club.

Obviously we aim to rout the barristers and parliamentarians – but sailing novices shouldn’t be afraid to join in, says club secretary Finbarr Leahy: ‘They are a traditional design of boat and quite intuitive to sail. This has always been a great day of sailing.’
