Labour grandee David Lammy may have left his shadow justice post back in November 2021, but he continues to be a prominent figure in the legal sector. The barrister and Tottenham MP and current shadow foreign secretary has been a fairly regular speaker at law firms, based on his latest register of members’ interests.

Lammy spoke at Osborne Clarke in October, at Hausfeld LLP in November and at Simmons & Simmons in March. Hausfeld managed to secure his services for a relative bargain of £3,570, while Osborne Clarke and Simmons paid £5,712 and £5,100 (Simmons got five hours’ work out of Lammy – including preparation – while he could give only four hours to his other assignments).

According to the parliamentary website TheyWorkForYou, Lammy was particularly in demand during Black History Month in October 2022, making five different speaking appearances worth around £16,000 in total.

And if you wanted to hear more from him, there is also his regular radio show on LBC, which in the last year netted him around £58,000.

Lammy’s extra earnings, however, pale into insignificance compared with the former attorney general Sir Geoffrey Cox, who registered around £700,000 in payments for legal services in the past year.
