Sifting through a full email inbox and dealing with over-judgemental spam filters sometimes makes Obiter yearn for the days when all communications were on paper. So well done to the Crown Prosecution Service, which to judge by its latest accounts seems to be holding back the electronic tide. The CPS spent almost £100,000 on postal services in the year to September 2013. It also spent £1,139 on four fridges from Comet.

Obiter hopes the CPS has already made a start on its Christmas cards this year, as the sheer volume could put it in danger of missing last posting dates.
