First we had the Legal Services Board's investigation into the Solicitors Regulation Authority's approach to the collapse of Axiom Ince. Now the pre-election shutdown - the phenomenon formerly known as purdah - has claimed another victim in the legal world. Yes the LawtechUK Conference, which had been scheduled for next Wednesday in London's Mansion House, is being postponed.

'This decision was made following careful consideration by the Ministry of Justice of pre-election guidance, which places restrictions on certain activity during the period in the run-up to a general election,' the organisers told us this morning. 'We understand this news is disappointing, especially given the effort and planning invested by all parties involved. LawtechUK is hopeful that we will be able to reschedule the event in the future and will keep you informed of any developments.'

Obviously the powers that be are alert to the possibility that a scheduled speech by lawtech minister Mike Freer (who is standing down from parliament anyway) might be enough to sway the result on 4 July.
