Obiter has sat in courtrooms with a variety of claimants and defendants, some of which stand out more than others (shout out to the ‘Naked Rambler’), but 007 would definitely be one for the books.
Alas, a US district court for Wyoming is a little way off Obiter’s ordinary patch and it seems actor Pierce Brosnan, who played James Bond in the 90s and early 00s, did not even attend court, instead entering his plea via a paper filing.
The 70-year-old was also granted a request to cancel his initial appearance, according to reports, and will instead appear remotely later this year. He is accused of allegedly wandering into protected hot springs at Yellowstone National Park. Brosnan denies all allegations.
Celebrities are no strangers to the courts. Just last year we had Prince Harry, Eva Green, Elton John, and Ed Sheeran and across the pond in the US, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert De Niro had their day in court too.
Cases involving celebrities always seem to tickle the public’s interest in a way other cases do not, and arguably should, so it is always with a curious interest that Obiter watches cases involving the famous.
Still, at the risk of sounding like a fan, it would have been rather fun to report on the James Bond actor’s alleged offence of ‘foot travel in a thermal area and closure violation’.
