HM Courts & Tribunals Service is inviting expressions of interest from suppliers to provide catering services at Bolton Crown and Magistrates’ Court and Manchester Crown Court.
Obiter has had its fill of bad court catering; think exiguously filled sandwiches, slopping and tasteless lasagne, and wilting salads.
But the good food is very good indeed. Shout-outs must go to the cheese toastie in Lewes Crown Court, and a baked bean-filled jacket potato that was comfort food incarnate on a very chilly day. Obiter no longer remembers which court provided the spud. And there was once a cold pasta salad that looked terrible yet was surprisingly delicious. A good meal and a life lesson.
The perfect catering option for a court would be something substantial and hard to botch. Pasta (the options are endless), something stodgy (comfort food), and a brightly coloured salad full of peppers and tomatoes, may we suggest.
We wish HMCTS the best of luck in its hunt for suppliers, and are on hand should a taste-test be required.
